How Do I Use Gmail Offline

download and install the Google® Offline add-on for Google Chrome℠

Accessing your Gmail® account when it is offline is a convenient benefit for many people and easy to set up. All that’s needed is to set your Google® mail account similar to classic mail clients, such as Outlook® or Thunderbird®.

When working offline, you cannot download actual emails and send new messages, but you can access the inbox and see all stored emails. You will need to download and install the Google® Offline add-on for Google Chrome℠. The instructions below explain how to set Gmail® so it is accessible offline.

Getting access to Gmail® Offline:

  1. Launch Google Chrome℠ and log in to your Gmail® account.
  2. Click on the “cogwheel (settings)” button and select “Settings” from the menu.
  3. From the tabs on the “Settings” horizontal menu select “Offline”.
  4. Click on the “Install Gmail Offline” link.
  5. You’ll be taken to the web store. Click on the “ADD TO CHROME” button on the top. Confirm it by clicking on the “ADD” button.
  6. Now, if you want to check your mailbox and you are offline, just click on the “Chrome” icon in the system tray and select the “Offline Google Mail” option.
